Cochran honored with wetlands, wildlife award
U.S. Senator Thad Cochran is the inaugural winner of the National Wetlands and Wildlife Award.
It was presented recently on the 20th anniversary of the Wetlands Reserve Program. Sponsoring the event were the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, The Nature Conservancy, the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership and Wildlife Mississippi
Also highlighting the event were Sallie and Hunter Fordice, landowners from Vicksburg, who provided Congress a landowner’s perspective of the Wetlands Reserve Program.
James L. Cummins, executive director of Wildlife Mississippi, said in a news release: “The hunter-conservation community felt it was time to recognize those individuals that have had a long history of fighting for conservation.
“So, they have developed an award, the National Wetlands and Wildlife Award, which will be given every five years to one member of the U.S. House of Representatives, one member of the U.S. Senate and one member of the Administration for their past efforts in supporting wetlands and wildlife conservation.”
