Could 2013 bring a state lottery?
Although a majority of Mississippians voted 20 years ago to change the state Constitution to allow a state lottery, there still isn’t one.
Efforts to create a lotto have died in the Legislature for many years, often without discussion, since the 1992 vote and one bill to do so has already died this session. But new House Gaming Committee Chairman Richard Bennett, R-Long Beach, said he’s open to the idea and plans to have his committee study the issue over the summer ahead of the 2013 legislative session.
