Wicker speaks on debt, deficit and defense

U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker says only bipartisan effort will keep Social Security viable, the “Buffett Rule” is a political ploy and the United States must stand with Israel against the specter of a nuclear Iran.

Wicker made his remarks in a panel interview Friday at the University of Mississippi’s Overby Center for Southern Journalism and Politics.

Before local journalists asked questions, Wicker said Social Security and Medicare are unsustainable at present funding and benefit levels, and reminded the audience the kind of bipartisan cooperation that saved Social Security in the 1980s is necessary now.
