Mississippi judges and attorneys could get pay hike
State senators approved legislation Wednesday that dramatically raises the pay of Mississippi judges and prosecutors, long ranked as the lowest-paid in the nation.
With only four dissenting votes, senators sent legislation to Gov. Phil Bryant that would raise the annual pay of Supreme Court justices from $112,540 to $123,460 beginning Jan. 1.
Their salaries would increase each year before topping out at $152,250 in 2016.
The salary of the chief justice would rise from $115,390 to $126,292.50 in January and reach $159,000 in 2016.
