Bryant announces campaign to raise money for sub commissioning
Gov. Phil Bryant, along with other state and local officials, announced a campaign today to raise $300,000 to help with costs association with the USS Mississippi commissioning.
The groups involved in the commissioning say the money is needed to cover expenses related to banquets and other special events in conjunction with the June 2 commissioning on the east bank of the Pascagoula River.
The $2 billion USS Mississippi, a Virginia-class attack sub, was christened in December 2011 in Groton, Conn.
