Palazzo names Jamie Miller Chief of Staff

By: Magnolia Tribune - August 20, 2011

GULFPORT — U.S. Rep. Steven Palazzo has promoted Jamie Miller to chief of staff and his spokesman, Hunter Lipscomb, to deputy chief of staff over his district offices in-state, the Sun Herald has confirmed.

Miller, 38, a former Pascagoula deputy city manager and coastal ecologist with the Department of Marine Resources, has served as Palazzo’s deputy chief of staff since February, running Palazzo’s district offices in South Mississippi. Miller had also served as a policy adviser to Gov. Haley Barbour after Hurricane Katrina.

Lipscomb, 27, served as Palazzo’s campaign manager. He is a native of Greenville and a former Bush Administration appointee to the Department of Energy.

Miller will be Palazzo’s third chief of staff since he took office in January. Erskine Wells, Palazzo’s first chief of staff, abruptly resigned after less than three months on the staff, along with Palazzo’s first communications director. Little explanation was given for their departures. Several weeks later, Palazzo’s legislative director resigned.

D’Iberville City Manager Michael Janus took an unpaid leave of absence from his city job and served as Palazzo’s temporary chief of staff. He left Palazzo’s staff in June to resume his duties with the city.
