Statewide ballot initiatives discussed at meeting in Pearl

PEARL – Supporters of three initiatives that Mississippi voters may decide at the polls in November say they are trying to protect unborn lives, prevent voter fraud and stop the government from taking private property.

Those who oppose the efforts say they would put women’s lives at risk, disenfranchise older residents and prevent jobs from coming to Mississippi.

Both sides got a chance to sound off at a hearing in Pearl Wednesday night. About 50 people attended the meeting, which was sponsored by the secretary of state’s office as directed by law.
