Controversial Casino Opens In Jones County, hires 300 Employees

JONES COUNTY, Miss. — Officials said the opening of the controversial casino on Jones County will push through Monday.
Bok Homa Casino said it will open its doors for the Mississippi band of Choctaw Indians.

Gov. Haley Barbour and other politicians previously criticized the casino because it was being built away from the reservation outside of Philadelphia, officials said.

In July, Barbour said, “I’ll tell you a slot parlor in a metal building with no restaurant on a two lane county road with no sewage treatment and very little water supply is not in the best interest of any Mississippian.”
