Had he stayed at Florida, Newton certainly would be the Gators’ starter this year — unless he was facing expulsion, a possibility raised in the FoxSports.com report.
AuburnSports.com this week cited a source at Florida claiming nothing involving Newton was reported to the UF committee charged with investigating academic violations, but it’s still possible he got out of Dodge.
The Bond allegation, which the NCAA is still investigating, is the more serious issue.
