According to ESPN.com, “a teammate of John Bond, an MSU quarterback in the 1980s, contracted Bond soon after Newton’s official visit to the school in December. He said he was representing Newton and soliciting a six-figure payment.”
Just last month, the NCAA asked Cecil Newton, Cam’s father, to submit financial records for the past few years.
To be clear, the Heisman hopeful has not been accused of anything – by the NCAA or by anyone else. And yet, some of the blogosphere’s worst “analysts” already are demanding that sportswriters around the country pledge to refrain from giving their Heisman votes to the odds-on favorite to win the coveted award.
