With the Republican Primary election for Mississippi’s 2nd Congressional District in June, the Democratic Party has not been getting the spotlight, but that doesn’t mean the party is stagnant.

“We want to keep awareness alive and not to forget November 2 will be here soon,” Coahoma County Democratic Party Chairperson Darron D. Griffin said.

Griffin explained there is not a race involving a Democrat in June because the 2nd Congressional District is occupied by Democrat Bennie Thompson, who will face the winner of the Republican Primary on November 2.

“In the mean time we’re going to work,” Griffin said.

Griffin said some of the things the party will be doing include poll worker training, pushing for more registered voters and educating voters on how to use poll machines.

“Train the Trainer” is a push Griffin has been involved with which helps train the poll workers.
