Capitol hearing plea for DeSoto County schools

JACKSON — DeSoto County schools would lose about 300 teachers and other employees if the Legislature approves a new state budget without waiting for $187 million in anticipated federal money, Supt. Milton Kuykendall said Tuesday.

Kuykendall, as president of the Mississippi Association of School Superintendents, joined legislators, school administrators and parents in a pro-public-education rally in the Capitol rotunda.

Participants called on the Legislature and Gov. Haley Barbour to slow the rate of spending cuts to education.
