Rankin officials’ New York trip cost county $6,000

Six Rankin officials’ trip to New York City to meet with a rating agency in preparation for a bond sale cost more than $6,000 to the county.

The $6,285 was reimbursed by the county officials from bond settlement proceeds to their financial adviser, Lynn Norris of Government Consultants Inc., and covers airfare, lodging, meals and transportation for the two-day trip in September, according to records obtained by The Clarion-Ledger through a public records request.

County Administrator Clovis Reed said with a bond sale of this size, it is “standard business” for county officials to meet rating agencies in person, noting the board has taken similar trips in the past.
