Which games are the best of the upcoming college football season? Below I’ve listed the 60 best for the 2009 season. There are a few I’ve left off that I think could be really good games but the list had to stop sometime. Please comment below and let me know what you think. Also make sure you check out our playing out the season (where fans vote on each games for the year) and our entire 2009 season preview.
1. Texas vs. Oklahoma (Dallas, TX, October 17th)
It’s not normal when the winning team from the previous meeting has revenge on its mind, but that’s the case here. This could also decide the Heisman Trophy race. Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy will put on a show, that’s for sure.
2. USC at Ohio State (September 12th)
This year the winner probably won’t climb up to the number one spot with a win. The winner does stay in the national championship picture though. Both defenses will be completely reloaded.
3. Alabama vs. Virginia Tech (Georgia Dome, September 5th)
The Crimson Tide are going to be breaking in a new quarterback against the Hokies, but it may not matter. Last year against Clemson the Tide jumped out to a huge lead and never looked back. The winner moves into the top five of the rankings, unless both are there beforehand.
4. Texas at Oklahoma State (October 31st)
This might be the game that sneaks up on Texas. Everyone is going to be talking about the Red River shootout game and a payback opportunity against Texas Tech, but the Cowboys will quietly chug along around the top ten. They could have the most explosive offense in the entire country when its all said and done.
5. Ohio State at Penn State (November 7th)
This looks like the game that will decide the Big Ten championship, barring a few unexpected results. Daryl Clark and the Nittany Lions fans will be loud at Beaver Stadium. A win for Ohio State would be only fitting after Penn State’s win last season in Columbus.
6. Florida at LSU (October 10th)
Chance is that this game will be at night on Saturday in Baton Rouge. If that’s the case then Florida will be lucky to survive. Les Miles would love nothing more than to announce LSU’s resurgence by knocking off the defending national champions. Last season’s 51-20 butt whooping will be on the Tigers minds.
