Mayoral hopefuls take pot shots
As the Jackson mayoral race heats up, Democratic candidate state Sen. John Horhn took his campaign – and a couple of high-profile endorsements – into another candidate’s backyard Wednesday.
Using a Roto-Rooter plumbing franchise in south Jackson on as his backdrop, Horhn pledged to expand business development beyond downtown and be more responsive to small-business owners.
“We need to change our focus to help more small businesses,” he said. “They are the lifeblood of our community and they deserve to have their phone calls returned and their needs met when they call their mayor and their city councilman.”
The final sentence was a less-than-veiled reference to Ward 6 Councilman Marshand Crisler, who represents the area. Cathy Ducksworth, Horhn’s campaign office manager, said the site was chosen, in part, to highlight a supposed criticism that Crisler had not been responsive enough to business interests in his ward.
