Entergy: Fuel-cost procedures OK

By: Magnolia Tribune - February 11, 2009

The Clarion-Ledger, 2/11/9

An independent audit of Entergy Mississippi’s fuel purchase policies recommends how the utility can most fairly pass along fuel-cost adjustments to customers.

Entergy officials say the audit shows the company uses proper fuel-buying procedures. But one commissioner says it shows the utility has a lot of work to do to ensure the best practices are used.

The report from Florida-based Vantage Consulting was requested by the Public Service Commission last summer after Entergy Mississippi received a fuel rate adjustment that increased the average bill 28 percent, based on a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours a month. The company’s rates have since dropped significantly.

Entergy Services Inc., Entergy Corp.’s fuel-purchasing subsidiary, “to a great degree … purchases energy, fuel, transmission rights and access … at the lowest overall cost to all of Entergy’s subsidiaries,” the review states.
