Keeping Busy: Vince Dooley isn’t coaching football anymore, but that doesn’t mean he has any idle time

During Vince Dooley’s 25 years as Georgia’s head football coach, there were only two programs that ever tempted him into thinking about leaving Athens.
One was Oklahoma in 1966, after his second year at Georgia. The other one was Auburn.

The year was 1980 and Dooley had just led the Bulldogs to a national title. Auburn, Dooley’s alma mater, was looking for someone to replace Doug Barfield. But while the Oklahoma job came too soon, before Dooley felt he’d established the program at Georgia, the opportunity on the Plains came a few years too late.
