Gene Chizik’s staff at Auburn higher paid than Tommy Tuberville’s
AUBURN – New Auburn head coach Gene Chizik will earn less than his predecessor, but Chizik’s assistant coaches will collectively make considerably more than Tommy Tuberville’s coaches.
Auburn is on course to have, collectively, some of the highest-paid assistant coaches in the Southeastern Conference.
Chizik agreed to a contract that will payhim $2 million annually, down from the $2.8 million Tuberville made in 2008. But the seven assistants Chizik has hired so far are set to make more than Tuberville’s assistants who coached similar positions. No contracts have been signed and the salaries are what the assistants and the university have agreed to in principle. The length of the contracts was not revealed, though all are multi-year deals.
