Some election officials in Mississippi are again pushing for an early-voting system similar to those used in 31 other states.
Early voting differs from absentee voting in that voters may cast a ballot at a designated place without offering a reason for being unable to vote on election day.
Lowndes County Circuit Clerk Haley Salazar – who sits on a state election reform study panel – said she supports letting all voters cast ballots before Election Day.
Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann – Mississippi’s top elections officer – said he also supports early voting. Both stressed there would have to be strict security measures adopted if early voting is approved.
