Upon final analysis, the question confronted by the University of Tennessee’s decision-makers was simple and to the point:
Is Phillip Fulmer the coach who can lead Vols football back to the top tier of the Southeastern Conference and again make the team a major player on the national college football scene?

Their answer: No.
With Fulmer’s ouster, effective at the end of this season, more questions have emerged.
Who will UT pursue and ultimately hire as the 21st coach in the program’s history?
And how long will it take the Vols to return to national prominence — if ever?
