OK, so there’s the Associated Press, the Coaches’ poll and the BCS rankings, but none have the enthusiasm, or maybe sarcasm, as the Times-Picayune rankings. We’ll give you a brand of humor with these picks – usually with a crazy pick at No. 25 each week – or in our quips about a certain team. Don’t get too worked up about it, though, nobody goes to a bowl or stays home from a bowl based on our poll, it’s all in fun.

1. Oklahoma (5-0)
Last week: 1; Saturday: def. Baylor 49-17. The skinny: In a position for letdown/lookahead, the Sooners jumped on the Bears for 28-first quarter points. The big game this week at the State Fair of Texas should be fun. Try the corndogs. Next: Saturday vs. Texas

2. LSU (4-0)
Last week: 2; Saturday: DNP: The skinny: An open date is an opportunity to gain appreciation for just how good the Tigers have been in the Les Miles Era. Yeah, he may lack the, ahem, charisma of Nick Saban and didn’t face the rebuilding task Saban did, but no coach in the past four seasons has gotten his team more ready for big games. As we shall see Saturday. Next: Saturday at Florida.

3, Missouri (5-0)
Last week: 3; Saturday: def. Nebraska, 52-17. The skinny: These Tigers just marched into Memorial Stadium and handed the Cornhuskers their most lopsided home loss in 53 years. Their next one could be highest scoring game of the year. Next: Saturday vs. Oklahoma State

4. Texas (5-0)
Last week: 4. Saturday: def. Colorado, 38-14; The skinny: A conference road victory is never anything to be sneezed at, but the feeling persists that the Longhorns haven’t really been tested yet. They will be Saturday. Next: Saturday vs. Oklahoma.

5. Penn State (6-0)
Last week: 6; Saturday: Who cares if JoePa’s hip is hurting him so badly he’s coaching from the press box? He’s not playing. But, we’ll say this, his Nittany Lions sure are. Next: Saturday at Wisconsin.

6. Alabama (6-0)
Last week: 5; Saturday: def. Kentucky, 17-14; The skinny: After last week’s performance against Georgia, a letdown was inevitable. But three turnovers and 10 penalties won’t get it done down the road. Next: Oct. 18 vs. Ole Miss
