College football weekend rewind: Missouri’s Chase Daniel heading for a Heisman
When Chase Daniel accepts his Heisman Trophy in December – yes, when and not if – he should be joining Archie Griffin as the only two-time winners of the prestigious award.
Daniel’s season has been remarkable, as much as his season last year was when he was robbed of the award because Tim Tebow became the nation’s darling. But Daniel had more total yards per game, a higher completion percentage, more touchdown passes and his team won three more games than Tebow’s.
But we digress.
Daniel piled up some impressive numbers against some mediocre opponents in September, but who doesn’t? It was his performance in Saturday’s 52-17 victory at Nebraska that validated those numbers. Daniel threw for 253 yards, pedestrian for him, but completed 78 percent (18-of-23) of his passes and added three more TDs. He has 15 touchdown passes and one interception this season.
Considering he plays in one of the two toughest conferences in the country and on a team that is emerging as one of the favorites to play in Miami the second week of January, the award is Daniel’s to lose.
