Only nine of the 28 Democrat Attorney Generals will be attending this week’s “secretive” meeting hosted by the National Association of Dem AGs in Savannah, Georgia. The meeting, although also open to non-Democrats and lobbyists, is closed to the press.
Among the nine are Rhode Island AG Patrick Lynch and Mississippi AG Jim Hood, reports Chris Rizo in LEGAL NEWSLINE. Conspicuous by their absence will probably be high-profile Dem AGs Andrew Cuomo, Jerry Brown, Terry Goddard, Lisa Madigan, and Martha Coakley. The latter just won another judgment in Massachusetts against a landlord who resisted abating lead paint by not renting to those with young children.
On the event’s agenda are presentations by political strategists on how to win state AG races. One of the presenters will be Doug Sosnik who assisted Bill Clinton during his second term as president.
On July 1st RI AG Lynch lost the landmark state lead paint public nuisance case when the RI Supreme Court overturned the verdict against defendants Sherwin-Williams, NL Industries, and Millennium Holdings. MISS AG Hood has been hurt by his association with felon Dickie Scruggs as well as with the bullying legal tactics against State Farm Insurance in Katrina lawsuits.
