The FBI says violent crime is on the downswing.
Data released Monday show violent crime dipped slightly nationwide in 2007. That ended two years of increases in homicides, robberies and other kinds of the worst crimes in U.S. cities.
The numbers went down in the Jackson metro area, too, although two of its faster growing suburban cities saw an increase.
In Jackson, violent crimes decreased from 2006 to 2007 by almost 15 percent – from 1,736 to 1,512 – with dips in all major categories except homicides.
