Mayor Frank Melton could yet again stand as a stumbling block to fiscal responsibility.
With his threat to veto the budget the Jackson City Council must approve by Sept. 15, Melton threatens obstructionism on top of his growing record of poor fiscal accountability.
For example, what are two major issues that citizens of Jackson are begging their government to address? Crime and the horrid state of the city’s streets top the list.
Yet, on both, Melton’s attempts at making a budget have come up woefully short.
On crime, Melton didn’t even know that money in his budget to pay for police raises was already committed to the city’s share of the county juvenile justice system. When asked about it, he said the agreement was invalid. But, of course, he was wrong.
