UPDATE: 1st District race endorsements

Former Gov. Bill Waller, a Democrat who has endorsed Republicans of late, said Monday he’ll support Travis Childers of Booneville in his quest to win the 1st District House seat.

“He is a consensus builder, a conservative Democrat who will be very effective at working across party lines to get things done for Mississippi,” Waller said in a campaign email. “These are traits that Washington sorely needs.”

Childers’ GOP rival, Southaven Mayor Greg Davis, is expected to pick up a key regional endorsement today. Race watchers say it could be Oxford Dr. Randy Russell, who ran third to Davis and former Tupelo Mayor Glenn McCullough Jr. in the first primary. Russell then endorsed McCullough, who lost to Davis on April 1.
