Jackson police officers Colendula Green and Robert Watts recently showed off their new rides by doing doughnuts on Farish Street.
The officers are the newly created team that recently began patrolling downtown on Segway electric scooters. They’re replacing JPD’s bicycle patrol, which dissolved about a year ago.
Green and Watts will focus on areas with high foot traffic.
“Our main goal is visibility and closer contact with citizens. In squad cars, you can’t stop and talk,” Green said. “We’ll also have more contact with the homeless, and we can direct them to Gateway, Stewpot or other social services.”
