Former Rep. Jamie Franks, D-Mooreville, told The Clarion-Ledger today he would likely not run for the open seat in the 1st Congressional District.
The seat was recently vacated by Roger Wicker, who was appointed by Gov. Haley Barbour to temporarily fill the U.S. Senate position formerly held by Trent Lott.
The date for a special election has not yet been set by Barbour, though he said he would call it within 60 days of Wicker’s appointment, which was Dec. 31.
“I have a 3-year-old and a 7-year-old, so Washington is a long way away,” Franks said.
