Insurance chief, auditor hopefuls stick to their messages
“If it gets rates down, that’s what I’m for, … and I’m not talking about short- term, I’m talking about long-term,” Chaney said at a Tuesday meeting with The Clarion-Ledger Editorial Board.
Chaney, 63, faces Democrat Gary Anderson, 51, in the Nov. 6 general election. Eight-term incumbent George Dale, a Democrat, was defeated in the primaries in his re-election bid this year.
Republican state auditor candidate Stacey Pickering also met with the editorial board. He faces Democrat Mike Sumrall, 50, for the vacated auditor’s post.
Republican Phil Bryant, who is running for lieutenant governor against Democratic state Rep. Jamie Franks, will relinquish the post in January.
“It’s critical that this state have available, accountable and affordable insurance, and I’m trying to stay focused on that,” Chaney said.
