Promoted officers won’t get pay raises

By: Magnolia Tribune - October 12, 2007

The Clarion-Ledger, 10/12/7

A group of Jackson police officers promoted by Mayor Frank Melton can wear the titles but won’t get salary increases because money isn’t available.

Some council members suggested Melton look to the Jackson Police Department’s $46 million budget to find the roughly $149,000 he needs to continue employing four workers in the finance division of that department and another $57,000 in salary increases for more than 10 reassigned officers, including a current and a former bodyguard.
