After more than a dozen Jackson police officers spoke out against Mayor Frank Melton’s recent promotions of his bodyguards on Tuesday, the mayor responded by saying they could leave if they were not happy.
“Their job is to protect and serve. If they’re not going to do that because they aren’t happy, then I’m willing to replace them,” Melton said. “I can replace them with the new class that comes up next month. I’m not going to submit to their tactics.”
The officers, who are members of the police union, marched into City Hall on Tuesday to meet with the mayor, but he was not there.
