Gov. Haley Barbour visited the campus of Jones County Junior College Monday to deliver a speech about his position in support of the state’s two-year college system.

“Education is the number one priority for Mississippi state government,” Barbour said. “It’s the number one economic development issue; it’s the number one quality of life issue. That’s why we spend 63 percent of our budget on education.”

The focus of Barbour’s speech was comparing the previous administration’s reduction of funds for higher education and the increase of funding under his, but he also mentioned a mixed bag of other topics.
