Mayor promotes bodyguards, makes other changes to JPD

Jackson Mayor Frank Melton announced the first set of changes in a shake-up of the Jackson Police Department during a news conference today.

Melton elevated one is his bodyguards, Michael Recio, to assistant chief effective today.

Assistant Chief Preston Carter will remain at his post, Melton said.

Melton said the moves are needed to give Chief Shirlene Anderson effective leadership in her upper-level command staff, which Melton says she is lacking.
