Mississippi has broken its all-time record employment level for a second month in 2007, according to statistics released today by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The non-farm, seasonally-adjusted employment level rose to 1,166,800 in August, topping the previous high set in June 2007 at 1,160,600. Most economists consider the non-farm, seasonally adjusted category as the most accurate reflection of the state of the workforce at any given time.
“Achieving a record number of Mississippians working for the second time this summer is fresh evidence that our economy is strong and growing in the right direction,” Governor Barbour said. “Our emphasis will continue to be on creating more and better jobs that help improve the quality of life for all Mississippians.”
Statistical information on non-farm, seasonally adjusted employment is generated by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, a unit of the U.S. Department of Labor that tracks employment figures.
