Statewide candidates headline Jackson County fundraiser
JACKSON (Monday, Sept. 17, 2007) – Democratic nominees for lieutenant governor, secretary of state and other statewide, legislative and county offices will headline a Tuesday night fundraiser for the Jackson County Democratic Party.

Jackson County’s Beans & Greens dinner is set for 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the East Central Community Center, 4300 Mississippi 614, in Hurley. The location is two miles east of Mississippi 63.

“This is a great opportunity for Democrats to show they support their party and its nominees,” said Wayne Dowdy, chairman of the Mississippi Democratic Party.

“People who attend the fundraiser will hear our nominees in the November election talk about how they will move this state forward and help everyone by fully funding education, cutting the tax on groceries and improving health care.”

Statewide candidates set to attend the event include: Jamie Franks, the lieutenant governor nominee; Rob Smith, the secretary of state nominee; Mike Sumrall, the auditor nominee; and Rickey Cole, the agriculture commissioner nominee.

Other statewide nominees – incumbent Attorney General Jim Hood, gubernatorial candidate John Eaves and insurance commissioner candidate Gary Anderson – are unable to personally attend and instead will have representatives speak for them.

Tickets are available for $10 each by calling Sheila Maki at (228) 473-1132 or Fran Sauter at (228) 475-1499.

“We have a strong lineup of candidates running in the November election,” Dowdy said.

“Our nominees offer voters strong leadership and a great vision for the future of our state,” he said. “We will win in November – and events like the Jackson County Beans & Greens give us a strong foundation on which to build.”
