REDBLUE – Legislators Who Tried Something Different

Legislators Who Tried Something Different

Of the 15 incumbent legislators who chose not to seek re-election this year, 8 of them did so in order to run for a different office. With the party primaries behind us, four of the eight are still in the running — Jamie Franks, Lynn Posey, Mike Chaney, and Stacey Pickering.

As for the four who were not: Chester Masterson lost his bid to move from state representative to state senator in Warren County; Mike Lott lost in the GOP primary for Secretary of State; Charlie Ross couldn’t overcome Phil Bryant’s name ID head start in the race for Lt. Governor; and former representative Lee Jarrell Davis failed in his campaign to become a Forrest County Supervisor.

As for those eight open seats, we know at this point in the election season that their successors will all be of the same party, with one exception: the campaign to replace Jamie Franks in his Northeast Mississippi House seat is currently too close to call.
