Republican lieutenant governor nominee Phil Bryant made it clear Monday that the primary focus of his agenda was the classroom.
Bryant, 52, who has been state auditor for 10 years, faces Democratic nominee Jamie Franks, 34, 12-year state representative in the Nov. 6 general election. The lieutenant governor is president of the state Senate, making it one of the most powerful positions in Mississippi government.
Bryant told the Hattiesburg American Editorial Board “education in Mississippi is the most important issue of this campaign” and he wanted to focus on the kind of education that would offer training to prepare students for jobs at manufacturers such as Toyota.
