BLACKWELL – Mississippi School Nurses Endorse Blackwell

By: Magnolia Tribune - August 2, 2007

The Executive Committee of the Mississippi School Nurse Association has announced its support and endorsement of Kevin Blackwell for Senate, District 19. In a letter to their membership Emily Ashworth, RN, BSE, NCSN, MSNA President wrote that the Executive Committee they were impressed that Blackwell’s “knowledge of preventive health far exceeds the issue.” Ashworth went on to say “The second issue that impressed the committee was Blackwell’s opinion that schools should be fully funded every year, not just during election years. This issue affects the school nurse as well as the students, teachers, and administrators.”

Blackwell, who was once a Licensed Vocational Nurse, has an extensive healthcare career spanning 30 years. “I am proud to have the endorsement and support of the Mississippi School Nurses Association” stated Blackwell. Blackwell continued “These dedicated healthcare professional make a tremendous difference in educating our children about healthy life styles. However, our nurses are short-staffed due to the lack of full funding. It’s past time for the legislature to do their job by fully funding our education program. As a father with three children that attend DeSoto County Schools, I have a vested interest to vote to fully fund MAEP every year – not just during a campaign year.”
