PBA Calls Hopkins “The Man to Lead Mississippi’s Law Enforcement”

JACKSON, MS – The Mississippi Police Benevolent Association (MSPBA) today announced its endorsement of former Special Assistant Attorney General and retired Major General Al Hopkins in the race for Mississippi’s next Attorney General. The endorsement is a result of a vote from the Association’s Board of Directors.

“For our state’s top law enforcement officer, we need a strong leader like Al Hopkins,” stated MSPBA Senior Vice President Ken Magee. “His commitment to being fair, but tough, makes him the man to lead Mississippi’s law enforcement community as Attorney General. Al Hopkins has given his life to public service, and that’s why our members are excited to stand with him and do everything we can to ensure he is our leader for the next 4 years.”

“I’m humbled to receive this endorsement, because the MSPBA’s members are everyday heroes that serve as role models in each of our communities across the state,” said Hopkins. “Our law enforcement community deserves a leader who will crack down on the drug crisis that’s spreading to all our neighborhoods, and you can be sure this General will lead these good men and women with undying respect for their courage and sacrifice. I will work hard every day of my term to earn their respect as an Attorney General they can count on to be fair, but tough, regardless of who breaks the law.”

Known as “The Voice of Law Enforcement” the Mississippi Police Benevolent Association has represented sworn law enforcement officers and support personnel from the federal to the municipal level by providing legal services and advocating changes to improve the quality of work life for people employed in all aspects of criminal justice.

A former Special Assistant Attorney General, Al Hopkins began his public service in 1965 when he joined the 31st Infantry Division as an enlisted man. Later, during his last four years of service, he served as Assistant Adjutant General of the State of Mississippi and retired as a Major General. He is currently serving his second six-year term as Chief Judge of the Court of Military Appeals. A native of North Mississippi’s Tippah County, Hopkins resides in Gulfport with his wife Ruth and two grown children, Ashley and Norris. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Gulfport where he has taught for over 30 years.
