Four legislative races to be decided in August; most go to November

Four Northeast Mississippi legislative races will be decided in Aug. 7 primary elections – all on the Democratic side.

In those four races, the winner of the Democratic primary will not face opposition in the November general election.

Those four are:

– Senate District 8, where incumbent Jack Gordon of Okolona is being challenged by Bill West of Okolona.

– House District 4, where incumbent Greg Ward of Ripley is facing Alan Miller of Ripley.

– House District 22, where incumbent Preston Sullivan of Okolona is being challenged by John Lancaster of Houston.

– House District 36, where incumbent David Gibbs of West Point is being challenged by Jimmy Davidson of West Point.

Eight Northeast Mississippi legislators – four senators and four House members – face no opposition in the August primaries or the November general election.

In the Senate they are Nickey Browning of Ecru, Gray Tollison of Oxford, Gary Jackson of French Camp and Bennie Turner of West Point.

The unopposed Northeast Mississippi House members are Sid Bondurant, D-Grenada; Tyrone Ellis, D-Starkville; Tommy Woods, R-Byhalia; and Tommy Reynolds, D-Water Valley.
