Lt. gov. hopefuls courting the right

In the Republican race for lieutenant governor, contenders clash over who is a better pal to Gov. Haley Barbour and who will carry the GOP water without spilling it.

Both state Sen. Charlie Ross and Auditor Phil Bryant live in Republican-stronghold Rankin County and share views on hot-button issues such as illegal immigration.

With Aug. 7 primaries less than a month away, the two men must spend their time painting their opponent as too moderate to lead the state Senate.
