Sanders elected to key leadership post

Mississippi Democratic Party Executive Director Keelan Sanders has been elected vice chair of the Democratic Party?s Association of State Executive Directors, representing the Eastern/Southern regions.

As vice chair, Sanders will help make sure that Mississippi and all other Southern states play a major role in the Democratic Party?s national strategy for winning the presidential and congressional races next year.

?I?m honored to serve the Association of State Executive Directors in this position,? Sanders said today.

?Being elected to this position shows that other leaders in the national Democratic Party see that we are headed in the right direction in Mississippi,? he said. ?We still have a lot of work to do in Mississippi, but we are on the right track.?

Sanders was elected to the post on Sunday while attending a meeting of the Association of State Executive Directors in Washington. Before winning the post, Sanders served as Southern regional representative for the association.

Sanders, 33, has been executive director of the Mississippi Democratic Party since 2004. He is a native of Jackson and a graduate of Belhaven College.
