Melton has told some council members he wants to abolish the Jackson Redevelopment Authority and take its reserves, which City Council President Ben Allen said the mayor believes to be more than $3 million. Melton also wants to sell the Standard Life Building and city-owned land in downtown.
The moves could net more than $6 million for the ailing general fund budget, Melton said. Yet, the JRA said Melton is off base and would be pinching pennies.
