Mayor Frank Melton said he plans to pay former Jackson Police Chief Bracy Coleman in the $70,000 range – or the salary of an assistant police chief and deputy chief – if Coleman is rehired.
Asked if he was fearful of being criticized for paying Coleman such a salary when the city is experiencing a $4.3 million deficit, Melton said his way of fighting crime is “costly.”
