Melton Honeymoon Part IX – The lobbyist

In another MississippiPolitics.com exclusive, we have obtained exclusive audio of another clandestine meeting of Jackson’s anti-mayoral elite. Having not paid their tab from someone eating too much tibouli at the Rainbow Coop at the last meeting, they have been relegated to a meeting in a crack house not far from the State Capitol.

Attending were:

Omari Obadele
Former Chief Robert Moore
Harvey Johnson and his white shadow (lawyer)
the crew from the Fondren Free Press
Derrick Johnson
State Democratic Party Officials with bags over their heads
Enoch Sanders
James Covington
Dorothy Dot Benford

Derrick Johnson – Well, now he’s done it. He’s gone and taken away jobs from a bunch of out of town consultants and vested that trust to a local guy.

Enoch Sanders – Man, this place is nice.

James Covington – Yeah, and he’s taking my contracts away, too. This means war!

Dorothy Benford – And that Marcus Ward is an egg sucking dog.

Donna Ladd – This is just getting out of hand. I mean what are we gonna do? I mean on the one hand, he’s young and he’s African American and he is being handed real responsibility. Theoretically, I ought to be for that. But on the other hand, he works for the Mayor and that’s bad in all circumstances.

Harvey Johnson – That’s right, Donna. And he’s Republican. That’s bad no matter how you slice it.

(State Democratic officials enter with bags over their heads)

Officials – Sorry we’re late. We ran here as fast as we could. Some of the neighbors mistook our bags for sheets and popped off a couple of rounds at us. What’d we miss?

Harvey Johnson – Marcus Ward – the lobbyist.

Officials – Oh, yeah that’s bad. He’s a black republican? We’ve got to completely embarass him at all costs. We can’t have that in Jackson. And if he was actually successful? Oh my gosh, what a potential disaster.

Robert Moore – So what’s our gameplan?

Harvey Johnson – Full media assault. Clarion Ledger is not returning my calls these days. Article in JFP?

Donna Ladd – Check.

Harvey Johnson – Derrick, what can the NAACP do for us?

Derrick Johnson – Other than label him an Uncle Tom, not much, sir. He is black.

Harvey Johnson – OK, what about the SCLC.

White Shadow – Sir, Stephanie Parker-Weaver works for the Mayor now. (And you forgot to use “priveleged and powerful”. You need to work on that.)

Harvey Johnson – Damn! Really? Well, I guess they’re out.

Officials – We have a blog. We had 4 people visit the site last week!

Harvey Johnson – Uhhhh ok.

Derrick Johnson – All I know is that our very mediocre way of life hangs in the balance here. We cannot let him be successful at any cost.

Will the anti-mayor forces be successful in tarnishing the reputation of a young professional?
Has Enoch Sanders found a new home?

Stay tuned for the next exciting installment.
