Former governors taking stage at Fair

Soaring temperatures and a limited water supply haven’t put much of a damper on this year’s Neshoba County Fair as political speaking was to get under way this morning.

Local legislators and Central District Transportation Commissioner Dick Hall are in the line-up.

Four former governors are scheduled to speak at the pavilion on Thursday.

First on tap at 10:20 a.m. is Bill Waller Sr., who served as governor from 1972-76; followed by William Winter, 1980-84; Ray Mabus, 1988-1992; and Ronnie Musgrove, 2000-04.

Gov. Haley Barbour will take the podium at 11 a.m.

Mississippi’s Giant Houseparty will get national exposure on Thursday when ESPN’s SportsCenter broadcasts live from the Grandstand as part of the cable network’s 50-states-in-50-days summer tour.
