Dale stands by comments that Democratic party needs white leadership
by Nikki Burns
Derrick Johnson, president of the Mississippi State Conference of the NAACP, said he would like to know if the comments were racially motivated “or was it for political strategy?
“As political strategy goes, you try to figure out ways to keep your votes. And sometimes that is where race and politics intersect,” said Johnson. “The Republican Party has made a deliberate attempt to use overtures of race to attract and maintain their base. And the Democratic Party, as a result of that, has been viewed as the ?black party.’ There are those in the party who are saying that we need to figure out a way to keep and maintain a significant number of white Mississippians in the party so that we can be competitive.”
