Omaha, Nebraska is the location. Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium is the venue. And, the College World Series is the event. One that is fast approaching.
After last night's contests, the NCAA Division I field has been cut to 16 teams, who will compete in the super regional round beginning this Friday (June 6) at various sites.
The Southeastern Conference was able to get a second team into the super regional round after Georgia held off Georgia Tech. LSU is the hottest team in America, winning their last 23 ball games under head coach Paul Mainieri. The Tigers are 46-16-1 overall, so do the math. Yes, their win streak is impressive.
However, it is not the SEC that was the best conference in the regional round, that honor belongs to the Atlantic Coast Conference, which saw four of its teams advance into the super regional round. North Carolina State, North Carolina, Miami and Florida State all advanced, with the Wolfpack being the only ACC team not to host a super regional. NCSU will travel to Athens to take on the Georgia Bulldogs, beginning Friday, while North Carolina hosts Coastal Carolina, Miami hosts Arizona and Florida State will entertain Wichita State.
