Roger Wicker Campaign releases new poll – +32 over McDaniel – Bannon favs tank #mssen

Methodology

Public Opinion Strategies conducted an IVR+ survey in Mississippi’s Third Congressional District from January 15‐16, 2018. The survey was completed among 400 likely GOP primary voters, including 56 interviews with cell phone respondents, and has a margin of error of +4.9% in 95 out of 100 cases.

 

Key Findings

In Mississippi’s Third Congressional District, Roger Wicker holds a commanding 32 point lead over Chris McDaniel.  Senator Wicker leads Chris McDaniel 59% to 27% with 14% undecided. Wicker enjoys a significant lead on ballot intensity with 45% of primary voters saying they will definitely vote for Wicker and only 19% saying they will definitely vote for McDaniel.

 

Among key groups:

  • Wicker leads with 58% of the vote to McDaniel’s 31% among base Republicans who

identify as very conservative.

  • Wicker holds a 44 point edge among voters aged 65 or older, earning 66% of the vote to McDaniel’s 22%.

 

Chris McDaniel’s biggest backer, Steve Bannon, is vastly unpopular with primary voters.

Steve Bannon is viewed favorably by only seven percent of primary voters while 47% view him unfavorably. Just over one quarter have never heard of Bannon.

 

Among key groups:

  • Only eight percent of self‐identified very conservative primary voters view Bannon

favorably while 45% view him unfavorably.

  • Among voters with an unfavorable view of Bannon, Wicker leads by 43 points, 66%‐23%.
