Op-ed by Merle Flowers
There is a lot at stake in the U.S. Senate special election runoff. Mississippians will decide whether we are going to have liberal or conservative leadership in Washington.
The left has resorted to twisting Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith’s words for political gain. They’ve taken her remarks and tried to turn them into hate speech. I have known Cindy for nearly 20 years, served with her in the State Senate, and know she meant no offense in her attempt to flatter a fellow cattle farmer.
Democrats and the national media are so predictable. They’ve turned to their tried and true playbook and are twisting Cindy Hyde-Smith’s words, because they know Mike Espy cannot beat her on the issues. Mike Espy is opposed to the Trump agenda, while Cindy has voted with the President 100% of the time in the Senate. Mike Espy criticized Trump’s tax cut, opposes building the border wall, and has previously voted in Congress for taxpayer-funded abortions. Cindy is for lower taxes, building the wall, and fighting for the unborn.
Mike Espy said he would have voted against Judge Kavanaugh, while Cindy voted to confirm him to the U.S. Supreme Court. If Mike Espy is elected to the U.S. Senate, we can fully expect him to fight whoever President Trump might nominate to the U.S. Supreme Court. That should give all of us every incentive to vote on November 27th.
Mississippians can see through liberals’ attacks against Cindy Hyde-Smith. We won’t fall for it. Sadly, it reminds me of the liberal mob’s politics of personal destruction against Judge Kavanaugh.
When you go to vote on November 27, please base your decision on the issues. It’s fair to say that Mike Espy and Cindy Hyde-Smith are good people, so don’t buy into personal attacks. Focus on how they will vote in the U.S. Senate on the issues that matter to you and your family.
